AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a school wide system, which has a student centered approach to learning. It encourages and provides students with the confidence and skills to take risks and direct their own learning. AVID promotes student success, by facilitating organisation skills, communication, listening, speaking, note taking and critical thinking.
At Kurunjang Primary School AVID incorporates:
- Student Success– encompassing communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, and writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking, and study skills.
- Organsiation– both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal-setting.
- Partnerships – among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.
In 2017, KPS will begin school-wide implementation of AVID and WICOR strategies.
