Hello Kurunjang Primary!
Ben and Janelle here from Six Seeds School Canteens.
We can now officially let you know we will be open from Monday next week. YAY!
We appreciate your patience while waiting for everything to align so we could open. It has no doubt been a challenging period, we know it has for us.
We have already had some encounters with your children as we clean and set up the canteen and we can not wait to meet more rockstars of the KPS community in the coming weeks.
A little bit about us… We are parents to 5 gorgeous children ranging from 3 years of age to 14 years. We have 4 girls and one young man.
We have been operating school canteens since the beginning of 2019 when our children’s canteen became available for tender. Before canteens we worked in the hospitality industry for 15 plus years. Ben worked his way up to Head Chef and Janelle to Front of House Management. We have both worked in many types of venues including Cafes, Pubs, Hatted Restaurants and Ben even had a stint of Hospitality Training including VET programs for Secondary Students, but school canteens have been by far the most rewarding.
We are so excited to get to know not only the students and staff within KPS, but also the families.
In the first few weeks we will hold some tasting sessions after school so families can meet us and see their children sample our food for piece of mind when ordering. We will keep you posted about this via our Facebook page – Café Kurunjang by Six Seeds.
Our online ordering platform is Qkr! This is ran by Mastercard and we have found it to be quite user friendly. We also understand that initially it can be a little daunting so please reach out either via our FB page messenger or you can reach us at email@example.com
We have included a step by step instruction page for Qkr! set up. It is extremely important to ensure you select the correct class to avoid your child’s lunch going to the wrong classroom. We have included a list of classes and how they are labelled on Qkr!
We do also strongly encourage ensuring you select the correct day/date when ordering. Having the option to order up to 2 weeks in advance is extremely handy, but when busy can also mean we rush and select a day for the following week instead of the intended order day. If this does occur, we can work around it with a phone call with parents. We never want any child to go hungry, especially in a learning environment. This will mean that your child may be restricted to what is available at short notice though and can take some time depending on how busy we are at the time.
Initially there may be some items on our menu that are not yet available due to waiting on equipment to arrive – hot chocolates (and coffee for adults – we are waiting for our coffee machine to be delivered) and any other items our suppliers are still experiencing shortages with. We have been having some supply issues with Oak Milks – especially Strawberry. This is across all sites and Victoria wide from what we understand. We will do our best to keep this at a minimum when in our control.
The KPS menu will be available on Qkr! on Sunday. See attached a copy of our menu to view now.
Qkr! online order will close each morning at 9am on the dot. We will also accept handwritten manual lunch orders and the cut off for these is 9.30am.
If your child needs to leave school early and they have a lunch order, if their order is ready, you can collect it from us on your way out or if we have not yet prepared it, we can hold the order until further notice. If we have prepared the order and not received communication from families to organise an alternative, the lunch order will be forfeited. This usually occurs if the order is either sent to the classroom or its an item we can not hold or sell on.
Our menu does cater for most dietary requirements. If you have any questions around our menu, please either come and see us or reach out on messenger or email. We will do our best to get back to you as quickly as we can. We also encourage you to notify us of dietaries each time when ordering.
Our menu is approved by the Achievement program and meets the Healthy Canteens Guidelines. We take great pride in making most of our items from scratch without losing deliciousness. We also have different sized portions for some items for those who have smaller or greater appetites. This also means we will not have any ‘lollies’ available in the canteen as they are classed as a red or black item. We stick to green everyday items and amber occasional items. We appreciate your support on this.
We value respectful feedback. This is the only way we can continue to innovate in what we do and offer. Open and honest communication is one of our company core values and we will always consider your feedback.
We love chatting and getting to know people (Janelle especially) and thrive on hearing updates from students about what brings them joy. Ben is always up for a singalong – although your ears may suffer… most students get a laugh out of it.
We want to thank you in advance for your support and welcome into your school community. We cannot wait to meet you all!
